Master Thanh Van became a Disciple of the Shyun Style Eight Step Preying Mantis System in 2006 and earned the title of Master in 2010, under the guidance of the Fourth Generation Grand Master James Shyun.

Master Van is in charge of the National Sifu Testing Committee, ensuring the quality of the future generation of the Shyun Style 8 Step Preying Mantis System. Master Van also holds a Master Degree in Engineering and a Master Degree in Business Administratrion.
